Concept

Martin’s Run by Martin’s Hotels is a sport competition, but it is also the expression of a philosophy. The ambition to combine the pleasures of clean air, physical exercise, well-being, nature and a family outing… and all this in the context of an initiative driven by an eco-responsible attitude and the desire to interact with the community. We do this by putting together an event that will be as eco-friendly as possible, and by providing a contribution to charitable, educational and humanitarian organisations, most of which work with children and youth.

In practical terms, Martin’s Run is:

A race during one day that combines sports and festive activities, entirely compensated in terms of carbon footprint (compensation by CO2Logic)
A donation made to charities
The organisation of an event with partners who, just like us, are committed to the environment and sustainable development
A will to reduce waste

Healthy catering and refreshments with a priority given to organic, local and seasonal produce

The beneficiary charities:

La Ferme de la Hulotte
This children’s farm is intended for children by helping them grow in the middle of the nature. Moreover la Ferme de la Hulotte commits to implement actions within the farm that respect the environment and sustainable development (dry-pit toilets, compost, selective sorting, waste reduction, organic farming…).

Coming from all backgrounds, the children are guided and made aware of the importance of the farm’s values, such as respect for self, others, and nature, tolerance, solidarity and teamwork. Moreover la Ferme de la Hulotte commits to implement actions within the farm that respect the environment and sustainable development (dry-pit toilets, compost, selective sorting, waste reduction, organic farming…).

Jane Goodall Institute

Jane Goodall Institute Belgium  believes that every single individual matters and can make an impact on the planet every day. Daily our volunteers and sponsors work to bring to life Jane Goodall’s dream to live in harmony with nature. We do this through our forest and garden planting events that create ecosystems and support local communities. Through our youth empowerment program, we guide young people in Belgium on the importance of leading a sustainable life style and becoming humanitarian leaders. And we relentlessly create awareness on the need to protect endangered primates such as chimpanzees.
We are proud of our efforts. They make a difference to local communities each day in Belgium and Africa. Our vision is a healthy planet where people make compassionate choices to live sustainably and in harmony with each other, the environment and other animals.

Education Sans Limites

“Education sans limites” is an association which campaigns for the basic right of children who are mentally disabled to benefit from inclusive education. It calls for the full and effective participation of these children in society, whilst respecting their right to differentiation and respect for their dignity.
The association is made up of a multi-disciplinary team comprising, among others, three orthopedic trainers who ensure the pedagogical monitoring of the projects for the inclusion of the children. Their role is to support the teachers who are involved in the project and to support the children in their learning process.
The projects run up to now have led to very positive results for the disabled children but also for the other children. These projects actually develop a greater awareness and a better understanding of disability.

Focus on local partners:

Some local partners will be present at Martin’s Run and will offer their services or help:

Refreshments with Biostory

We partner with Biostory, an organic shop in Brabant-Wallon, to provide refreshments with healthy, organic and bulk products to the courageous runners ! The Biostory team can claim to offer only products from 100% organic and sourced locally, while remaining true to the values they hold dear: the pleasure of taste, the assurance of the organic origin, the discovery of new products and ethics.

Youth clubs

We partner with local youth clubs to get some help with signposting the routes and the arrival and departure zones.

–  Waste collection after the race.

A focus on the reusable & sustainable:

– Material reuse (equipment, panels) ;
– Distribution of useful and sustainable lots as far as possible ;
– Using water bottles, camelbak, biodegradable cups ;
– Investment in reusable race number (bought in 2018).

An optimum reduction in the amount of waste:

– Food in bulk for refreshments ;
– Avoid waste at refreshments ;
– No medal or t-shirt for the race ;
– Reduction of the number of plastic bottles : provision of water fountains where participants can fill their water bottles or camelbaks.

Well-being of staf and participants :

Participating in the Martin’s Run means enjoying a fun time in harmony with nature, in the green surroundings of Genval and around. Running is above all a pleasure, a state of mind, and, especially, a wellness pledge rather than a performance. A moment to share with family, friends or colleagues, … Healthy and good for you, running puts your body in action and develops your cardiopulmonary abilities. Introduce yourself to practice without forcing yourself! We make every effort so that participants can fully appreciate this experience :

Refreshment stations

A generous supply composed of fresh fruits (oranges and bananas), dry fruits and water thanks to Biostory as well as bulk provisions for the children at the daycare.

Warm-up

A warm-up time is organized before the race to prepare the effort and allow a better performance by reducing the risk of injury.

Prize-giving ceremony

We aim for sustainable and useful prizes for the winners.

Tips

Tips for an optimal run are available several weeks before the run on our website and our Facebook page.
